How we changed a dated corner-bath bathroom suite into a functional, yet stylish compact bathroom.

It appears we have accepted compact bathroom sizing as the standard in home design. What do we mean by that? Most houses built in the last 40 years relegate the bathroom to a small boxy space. A place of function and that is it. Yet this is a place in our homes where we can relax and refresh after a tiresome day – surely it is more important! Well, fear not, as we at Parkstone Yorkshire are specialists in converting a compact bathroom into a sumptuous space to unwind.

This project shows this transformation perfectly. We also have this narrow bathroom conversion case study.

It always makes us smile when we reflect on bathroom design. This project had a dated suite which, in fairness, was perfectly adequate. The compact bathroom’s old corner bath probably served its purpose well, but the space just wasn’t functional. In our opinion, it felt cramped and claustrophobic, with oversized bathroom furniture. The layout of the sink and toilet is wrong because it wastes large amounts of floor space. It is time for an upgrade!

Now here’s the clever bit: we actually make the room a little smaller to make it feel bigger! How come? Well, it is all to do with the pipework.

First of all we confirm our plans with the customer and set to work; carefully removing the old suite and all the boxing covering the pipework. The old bathroom covered pipework running from ceiling to floor in the far corner and underneath the toilet cistern. Rather than just doing the same, we moved the entire wall forward to cover these pipes. It also provided a cavity to hide the new toilet cistern and shower, leaving only the controls visible. Plus, the cavity wall provides the space to create a stylish inset shelf over the bath; perfect for storing bathroom accessories without it cluttering the space. Suddenly, everything feels bigger even though there is less space.

The bathroom is a straightforward installation with all parts mounted on or in the cavity wall. These are covered using splash panels: a cost effective yet stylish way to cover walls in bathrooms. A quality bath and shower screen finish this bathroom making this space more practical and more desirable.
