High Hot Water Flow Rates – The PowerMax
Unfortunately, this was not the case for the existing boiler on this project – The PowerMax: A high hot water flow rate, high efficiency gas appliance. We will be adding a blog on the PowerMax soon, but this combined boiler and water heater caused serious health problems nationally, and lead to a tragic death.
Needless to say, it pleases us to see this one disappear to the scrap yard. So, what did we replace it with, and why?
Performance Is Key, Especially In A Busy Household.
A combination boiler perfectly suited the property, however, the customer wanted high hot water flow rates similar to the old PowerMax. First, we installed a Vaillant EcoTec Plus System Boiler in the loft space. ~We added boarding to and around the boiler for future servicing. Next, we replaced the PowerMax with a Gledhill 250litre Unvented Cylinder in the airing cupboard. We replaced the chipboard floor in the airing cupboard with exterior ply to add strength; this cylinder full of water is very heavy! Because of the hot water flow requirements, the large 250l Gledhill Unvented Cylinder reduces the storage space inside the airing cupboard. But we’d prefer that over the PowerMax! And they get over 20 litres/min flow rate!
